I do not know if you know Peruvian cuisine, but I am about to fix that, probably in the best possible way, by introducing you to one of our favourite restaurants: TUPAQ.
Bordeaux & Peru: a love story
I could not start these few words on this delicious restaurant without touching on the tight (often overlooked) link between Bordeaux and Peru. Indeed, Lima, the capital of Peru, has been twinned with Bordeaux since 1956!
Cultural and academic events have punctuated this long friendship over the years. In 2021, our ties gain fresh momentum with solidarity projects (drinking-water access in disadvantaged neighbourhoods), heritage preservation (rehabilitation of the UNESCO-listed historic centre), cultural exchanges (crossed residencies of street-art artists) and educational programs (school exchanges).
This year, we celebrate the bicentenary of Peru's independence and of the Bordeaux-Lima friendship.
And what better than to introduce TUPAQ, an inspired, intoxicating and vibrant restaurant with an exotic, refined and different cuisine.
Tupaq, a restaurant… a famous name
Tupaq Amaru is a political symbol for indigenous activists in Peru. Considered the first leader of the rebellion against the order imposed by Spanish colonists, he is an emblem, a strong symbol of indigenous revolt.
It is also the name of this restaurant which, as its website says, "DARES TO LIGHT ONE MORE SPARK IN THE CULINARY REVOLT ALREADY ALIVE IN BORDEAUX"
It is also a singer you certainly know: 2Pac, the famous American rapper. 2Pac's name was Tupac Amaru Shakur, directly inspired by the indigenous leader Tupac Amaru II.

An inspired, surprising and delicious cuisine
Simply put, we were charmed… Charmed by the place, decorated in a light and delicate way, by the caring welcome (with that lovely little accent), and finally by the incredibly good food. This marriage of flavours, these original compositions and these taste pairings we are not used to make an explosive cocktail for the palate.
Heads up: here you are dealing with 2 true chefs, and it shows on the plate.
If you are in a seafood mood, the Conchitas a la parmesana (grilled and flambéed scallops…) will wake up your taste buds, just like the Chaufa de Chancho… low-temperature pork ribs unveiling their aromas, served with an omelette and a seasoned rice… my mouth is watering… The menu changes regularly and surprised us with its variety.
I even let myself be tempted by an amazing Inca Kola, yellow as the Peruvian sun!
Typical music to set the pace of the meal and honestly… we could stay all day!
You get it: we had a great time.
Easily reachable, this restaurant must be tested! We have a real favourite here. Thanks to Piero and Sébastian for this inspired cuisine and to Sandra for her welcome… And a special mention to Sibyl for putting us onto this place.
