A unique exhibition, 3 singular artists...

ArtLab had the pleasure of presenting "Beyond", a group show by the trio Carni Bird, LadyBug and Natch from December 9, 2021 to January 8, 2022. Whether about identity or otherness, self-transcendence, freeing oneself from the mind's truths or wisdom, transcendence is a feeling of fullness interpreted through the collective intensity of three artistic voices for the space of a winter breath.

Time to introduce these artists.

CARNI BIRD

" To transcend. Transcend words, orders, the corners of the world where we stumble and go blind.
Transcend illogical laws, prefab bodies, neatly tied definitions. Transcend inside, outside, transcend silent agreements, conditional love contracts. Transcend to bloom, revisit, activate, heal, become, become again. Transcend, from those little miracles that make no sound during the explosion, it bubbles, splashes and finally overflows. Transcend an image, a mirror, a truth. Transcend like a gentle war, on oneself, on others, and everything in between."

LADY BUG

Human beings... these complex beings, full of doubts, fears, neuroses, and at the same time gifted with strength, courage, determination. Human beings fascinate me. They play with their multiple masks so as not to reveal who they truly are.
Subterfuges, pirouettes, filters, so many obstacles to communication and mutual understanding. I watch us and I feed on it. I learn from others, so I learn from myself. Maybe to try to lean toward my authentic self. But it's hard to own your authenticity in this theatrical society.
If « transcendence » is the idea of going beyond or crossing over, like something beyond the perceivable and the possibilities of the intelligible, can we say that someone who has reached that state is someone who has finally understood
the full complexity of human behavior and drawn lessons they apply to themselves?
Sometimes I'd like to reach that wisdom... but I'm only human.

NATCH

Though generally tied to something mystical or spiritual, the word transcendence simply means: « passage to a higher state ».
A synonym for modification, it also carries notions of ascension and progress. This
chameleon word grabs our curiosity because it seems able to cross ages and contexts. For some, it evokes the trances of shamanic ceremonies; for others, it evokes personal progress or breaking free of a social status. It's easy to understand what it can mean, but
harder to grasp what triggers it. When and how do we transcend something? What forces drive these ascensions? What does transcending mean for an artist?

What we thought of this exhibition

It wasn't easy to bring 3 artists with their own worlds into a single space and offer a unique show with such striking unity. You move from painting to painting, from piece to sculpture, from sculpture to painting... Pierre from Magnetic ArtLab has this talent for daring and building striking, captivating shows.

This exhibition was magnificent and these artists were lovely to meet. We loved it.
