More than a crossroads or a passageway, where everyone crosses without stopping, Place Saint-Projet is also the spot where a Gothic cross stands: THE CROSS OF SAINT-PROJET.
What is fairly amazing about the story is that this cross comes from the old parish cemetery that once stood east of the Saint-Projet church.
These crosses were used to mark the locations of the « common fields » (spots where the bodies of the poor without resources were laid). They were also venerated during certain religious feasts.
This cross is the oldest in Bordeaux.
Destroyed and then restored thanks to a local lace merchant, it now stands proudly in the middle of this lively square.
