BORDEAUX CONFIDENTIEL

The Mériadeck District

MUST-SEE

Who doesn't know the emblematic Mériadeck district in Bordeaux? On the edge of Bordeaux's historic district. This district had several lives before the face we know today was born.

A stone's throw from downtown Bordeaux

The MÉRIADECK DISTRICT is first a face shaped during a huge urban remodeling operation in the 70s. It's Bordeaux and a (mini) city apart at the same time. Shops, administrative centers and stunning architecture make the Mériadeck district unique in Bordeaux.

The birth of the Mériadeck district

The old échoppes then present at these spots were destroyed to make it possible to raise and shape this environment unique to Bordeaux.

It was under the drive of former député-maire Jacques Chaban-Delmas that this then-modern district was born. Offering administrative and commercial structures and infrastructures.

Today, the MÉRIADECK DISTRICT offers a striking landscape that stands out against the strictness and geometry of modern buildings.

During the 2000s, the office buildings and administrative and commercial buildings of the Mériadeck district went through big renovation works. This transformation helped polish the previously aging image of the district. The central Post Office and Mériadeck shopping center in particular went through major rehabilitations. On the esplanade, the office buildings of the Region and the Bordeaux Urban Community, the Gironde building of the Conseil Général and the Cité Municipale have also been recently modernized.

Made of curves and concrete, it's a witness of an era and draws many amateur photographers playing with this environment stuck in the 70s.
