BORDEAUX CONFIDENTIEL

The point zéro

BORDEAUX SECRETS

You may have already heard of the famous point zéro, especially the one on the square in front of Notre-Dame in Paris… But did you know that this famous POINT ZÉRO also exists in several major French cities, and in particular in Bordeaux?

What is the point zéro?

So what exactly is this POINT ZÉRO?

Well, this point, often shaped like a kilometre marker, marks the spot from which all distances to and from Bordeaux were once measured (yes, because it is no longer the case today), what was called « the origin of the marking », which is what is carved into this marker in Bordeaux.

This marker is a piece of history in its own right, and is even listed on the supplementary inventory of France's Historic Monuments.

Facing this marker, historically there used to be a signpost giving the direction and distances of all the cities twinned with Bordeaux, but since the renovation of Place Gambetta, that signpost is gone.

Where can you see this marker?

You can find this marker at 10 Place Gambetta in Bordeaux. Not long ago, LE PETIT CAFÉ opened here. The marker is to the right of its front door.

One last thing, stop by Le Petit Café, just to soak up the place and a piece of history, you are bound to have a good time (and say hi to the team from us… thanks).
