BORDEAUX CONFIDENTIEL

2025 Street Picnics in Bordeaux: a warm night with neighbors and friends

EVENTS

What if we extended summer around a big open-air table? On Friday September 12, 2025, Bordeaux comes alive for a new edition of Street Picnics. For one night, all generations meet to share a meal, exchange and celebrate the art of living together.

The idea: simplicity, warmth and good mood

No stage, no big stars, no complicated program. The idea is beautiful in its simplicity: bring your picnic and share a warm moment with neighbors, friends or perfect strangers.

You lay your cloth, take out plates and glasses, and soon the street turns into a huge popular banquet. Here, everyone brings their homemade specialties, salads, pies, wine bottles or bread still warm from the corner bakery. Result? A relaxed, joyful, totally Bordelais atmosphere.

Why go?

Because it's one of those simple, essential events that bring smiles back. You meet neighbors you cross without really knowing, you make new friends, swap a recipe or a good tip… in short, it's pure Bordelais warmth.

It's also a great idea for:

The curious: chance to discover other neighborhoods differently.
Families: kids run everywhere while parents toast.
Students: everyone brings a dish and shares without breaking the bank.

Street picnics are first a night to meet. No need to wait for an official festival or big demonstration: here, the city belongs to residents. Streets close to cars and open to smiles.

And it's often around a glass, a salad or a homemade cake that the best conversations are born. Like a big village festival, but right in Bordeaux.

Our tips for a successful picnic

  • Bring sharing: an easily-cut dish, a bottle, a big salad bowl.
  • Think comfort: reusable plates, solid cups, cloths or blankets.
  • Be curious: chat with your table neighbors, offer a dish swap.
  • Stay till the end: picnics often go late, when garlands light up and music joins in.

These picnics recall how much Bordeaux is a good city to live in. Between its quays, squares and neighborhoods with strong identities, every street corner becomes a meeting and sharing place.

It's also a lovely way to extend summer and tackle the new season differently: bringing residents together around what unites us most… the table!
