Muxu, Mérignac: the festive Basque address that charms all the senses

RESTAURANTS

Muxu (Basque for "kiss") isn't content just being a restaurant-tapas-bar: it embodies a philosophy of sharing, warmth and taste. Located at 23 avenue du Maréchal Leclerc, Mérignac-Centre, this new Basque address quickly got people talking for its joyful vibe, sincere cuisine and carefully-crafted cocktails. We went to discover the place, its surprises, and why it's now a must on the Bordeaux dining scene.

Muxu: the Basque Country spirit embodied in every smile

From the first steps, Muxu sets a warm atmosphere: warm, lively, but without excess, festive without being loud. The name itself, « Muxu », sets the tone: a « kiss », a hug, a welcoming intent. Comfortable seats, soft lighting, decorative choices (wood, touches of color, graphic elements evoking the Basque Country) help create this blend of intimacy and warmth. You feel good there, whether for a meal with friends, an aperitif or a lively night.

The restaurant regularly hosts music nights / DJ sets, which adds a festive dimension. On Instagram you see announcements for tapas + cocktails + music nights, proof of a lively calendar. Welcome also seems careful: staff on hand, capacity to host groups, big tables - you feel the social experience matters as much as the taste-bud one.

Southwest tastes: Muxu's generous cuisine

Muxu's cuisine draws its strength from terroir and market, with a menu that renews and adapts. At lunch, a menu inspired by fresh, Southwest, generous, sincere, creative products. In the evening, plates to share, revisited tapas, creativity first. You find dishes « full of soul » that don't try to overdo it but touch you with quality.

Among specialties, creative tapas are in the spotlight: small portions perfect for tasting as a group, with well-found flavor pairings - fresh herbs, pickles, local products. Desserts don't lag behind: gourmet desserts that bring sweetness after the plates, well-calibrated to end on a pleasant note. Of course, the wine list rounds out the offer, with winemaker wines, chosen to accompany tapas or more structured dishes.

Festive mixology: Muxu's signature drinks

Muxu's bar isn't a mere annex: it plays a central role in the experience. In the evening, cocktails become one of the main draws: refined, inventive, often based on fresh or local ingredients to give character to the drink. While exact signature cocktails aren't all mentioned in sources, it's clear the drink list is designed to surprise: mixology at the right pace, careful presentation, oscillating between revisited classics and bolder creations.

In the evening, the bar-tapas vibe reinforces this « shared glass » side: you don't come just to eat, but also to drink - an extended aperitif, a relaxation moment after work, a party moment. The bar uses its space, lighting, music to set an atmosphere ripe for encounters.

What makes Muxu's heart beat

As soon as you push Muxu's door, you feel this place isn't trying to impress with flash, but to charm with sincerity. The name itself, « Muxu » - « kiss » in Basque - isn't an ornament, but a promise: gentle welcome, human warmth, shared smile. Here, no acting, just cultivating authenticity. Every plate, every dish speaks of terroir, every service feels like a friendly gesture.

What makes Muxu really irresistible is its menu that doesn't freeze. You discover, rediscover: every week, the lunch menu evolves with the market, cravings, arrivals. Tapas change too, desserts bring their sweet, novel touch, propositions surprise when you least expect it. You never come to Muxu to find exactly what you had last time: you come for surprise, for this glimpse of newness, for the wish to come back and rediscover.

And then there's the vibe - this soft vibration oscillating between intimacy and celebration. Between music, well-dosed DJ sets, nights where everything seems lighter, clinking glasses, laughter going around. The bar, cocktails, decor, all contribute to this life moment: you don't just come to eat, you come to be together, to create a memory. At Muxu, the party doesn't light up in neon, it blooms in the details - in the attentive service, the right light, the warm exchange.

Big thanks to Ben, Elsa and the whole Muxu team for their welcome, for this moment where taste and warmth got in tune, and for building a place where it feels good to come back. Thanks also to the bartenders who showed us their signature cocktails, to the cooks for their generous cuisine, and to all the guests who make every night at Muxu unique. We loved it, so we'll be back!
