The sun melts, dawn weeps light, leaves surrender to a tawny agony. It was in the fall that the Magnetic ArtLab gallery recently presented a 'solo show' by Mika, a talented street artist.
A look back at this exhibition full of poetry and wonder.
An exhibition of incredible poetry
In its first sense, habitat is an environment fit for the life and flourishing of a species. Occupied by humans, habitat becomes housing.
A place answering a notion of comfort tied to our consumer society, driven by endless growth. We now live at the expense of our environment, inevitably storing up the destruction of our own habitat. An obvious inability to live in symbiosis, at the heart of this show, still through Mika's poetic and dreamlike vision.
Ex-habitat also echoes the abandoned places where Mika ends up painting outdoors. Neglected habitats, slowly dying, where natural elements reclaim their original place.
To underline the organic dimension, the staging was designed with floral artist Joanna Huneau from @labicyclettebordeaux
For over 10 years, Joanna has been composing with textures and plant materials to invite the contemplative into her poetic world.
Her natural color palette calls for a return to simplicity.
Like a takeoff...
Beautiful canvases, thoughtful staging, a suspended central structure... That was all we needed to take flight with Mika, letting ourselves be carried into a world both dreamlike and full of contradictions.
This intoxicating exhibition is an invitation to journey and contemplation.
