There are addresses that are whispered between lovers of the Bassin d'Arcachon. Places where you already know the view will take your breath away and where you hope the plate will live up to it. Le Platane, set at the Taussat oyster port in Lanton, is one of them. Part of the Bordeaux Confidentiel team went to test this renowned table, and today, we take you along for a seaside tasting experience.
The setting: a restaurant with a postcard view
Picture this: you arrive at the Taussat oyster port, a place already full of charm with its colourful huts and out-of-time atmosphere. A few steps and you're facing a large terrace turned towards the Bassin. Le Platane offers you a striking panorama: water as far as the eye can see, moored boats and that very particular light the area is famous for.
On decor, it is modern, understated but warm. Nothing flashy, just what you need to feel at ease. The wood, the large bay windows, the friendly spirit: everything is designed so that the landscape stays the star of the meal. And trust me, eating oysters while watching the sun slowly go down over the Bassin changes everything.
Between land and sea, with a clear preference for the ocean… The gourmets' spot!
At Le Platane, the meal is lived as much as it is tasted. Settled facing the Bassin, we savoured this moment as a real time-out. The plate, generous and honest, is like the venue itself: no fuss, but designed to please.
From sea to land, everyone found their happiness: fragrant mussels, grilled fish, a nice piece of meat for variety, all served with crispy homemade fries. What stands out is the freshness and accuracy. No need for tricks when the produce speaks for itself.
Then came the desserts… A true beautiful finale. Between ultra-indulgent revisited classics (hello madeleines-profiteroles coated in chocolate and almonds) and more modern, elegant creations, we finished the meal with a big smile.
Another thing that makes the difference is the service: a nice, relaxed but attentive team, who makes you feel welcomed like a regular, even if it is your first time.
Here, the sea is queen. The menu showcases everything the Bassin and the nearby fish markets have to offer at their best.
- The seafood platters: oysters, prawns, whelks, periwinkles, razor clams… the venue's grand classic, always impeccable on freshness.
- Fresh fish: daily deliveries from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Royan or La Cotinière, cooked simply to let the produce speak for itself.
- Seasonal must-tries: mussels, seared razor clams, hot oysters… as many dishes that delight enthusiasts.
- A few meats for those who prefer land (the entrecôte got the better of my appetite…)
- Homemade desserts: simple and effective, perfect to finish on an indulgent note.
And if you want to ease into your meal, the aperitivo board to share is ideal, especially with a well-chilled glass of white wine.
Le Platane, an address worth the detour
In the end, what stays with you from Le Platane is not only what was on the plate, but the whole experience. Eating facing the Bassin, with that view shifting as the light moves, is already a privilege. Add to that a fresh, well-executed cuisine, and you understand why this address has become a must-visit in Lanton.
And then there is the service, really flawless. That evening, big cheers to Christophe, our server: warm, attentive and always in good spirits. He made the moment even more pleasant, as if we were friends welcomed at the table rather than mere customers.
So if you are looking for a place combining a stunning view, fresh products and a caring welcome, Le Platane is clearly a safe bet on the Bassin. Come to share a good meal, but above all to give yourself an out-of-time pause, eyes turned towards the horizon.
