Over a weekend, we discovered Château de Sales, an exceptional moment in this remarkable wine estate straddling Libourne and Pomerol in Gironde.
The Bordeaux Confidentiel team shares this moment on the château, fully listed as a historic monument since 1996.
the largest property in Pomerol appellation
Château de Sales sits northwest of Pomerol appellation. With its 90-hectare estate (including 47.60 hectares of vines), an extraordinary property still owned by the same family after nearly five centuries. This site, exceptional through its history and environment, offers visitors an incredible history to whoever knows how to listen.
This family property is Pomerol's largest, the wines produced there are the worthy expression of Pomerol terroir: round, full wines of singular elegance.
Château de Sales offers surprising landscape diversity. You'll easily pass from the château itself to its hectares of vines, then a huge garden ending in a small forest leading to a naturally fed pond (a real personal water mirror). This diversity is quite astonishing and you enjoy imagining spending days there, picnics, etc.
TOURS & TASTINGS
One of Château de Sales's pluses: the different ways offered to discover it. From afterwork to barrel tasting, classic discovery, formulas to wake your palate (where you'll discover chocolate & wine or cheese & wine pairings) or discover the courtyard and garden history, Château de Sales offers many ways to discover its history, secrets and wines.
With 5 centuries of history and know-how, trust me, plenty to surprise you and give you a magnificent moment.
And I haven't spoken of the tastings yet! The venue is simply magnificent. Both modern and old, an elegant marriage honoring the beauty of the wines tasted there. Warm, magnificent (yes I already said it, worth the doublet) and the wines... WHAT WINES! Round, supple tannins, elegant body, gourmet, well made... Magnificent (dang... 3 times).
You feel the years of know-how to reach such a wine. Hats off! (can you pour me another?)
ENCOUNTERS ON THE PROGRAM
Visiting Château de Sales is a bit like joining the family and extending its history. If there's one thing this château is rare on, it's its incredible history. A story beginning in 1578 and continuing today with a new generation at the controls of a unique Pomerol spot.
You'll meet this history and learn more about these 14 first cousins today co-owners of Château de Sales, mobilizing to take over.
For a moment, an escape outside Bordeaux, Château de Sales offers an exquisite time. We loved these moments with Nicolas Mestre. Thanks for the sharing, this history and this place. We'll come back soon with the whole family, that's for sure!
