The renewal of an incredible city
I bet you have already heard this name behind which we sometimes hide our Bordeaux.
It is from its own history that Bordeaux inherited this almost melancholy nickname of « the Sleeping Beauty ».
Bordeaux has not always had the face you know it for today.
Innovative, attractive and lively today, a few years ago it was bleak and dirty.
So, why?
The magnificent limestone the city boasts about used to be black, because although this stone is abundant in the open-air and underground quarries around the Aquitaine capital, it has the downside of turning grey then black as it ages, especially in a polluted environment.
Over the past few years, thanks to numerous titanic renovation projects, the Bordeaux city hall has stripped most of these façades and greatly helped revive the city's beauty, reveal its obvious appeal, and, in the end, wake up… the Sleeping Beauty.
