It is at low tide that you can see this famous Bordeaux naval graveyard. You can have a rational mind and still miss what is easy to spot when the water drops.
Letting our imagination trick us into seeing branches or bits of debris.
But these really are ship carcasses. More precisely, they are battleship carcasses from the Second World War.
In 1944, the Germans had a completely mad plan: blow up the city of Bordeaux to cover their retreat. Since they didn't have time to execute their plan before the Allies reached the city, the Germans, to slow the Allied advance and prevent a landing by the river, sank nearly 200 warships in the Garonne, between Le Verdon and Bordeaux.
Contrary to a common belief, these wrecks are therefore not the result of Operation Frankton.
Since then, various channel works have removed these wrecks; only one last wreck has remained since late 2017, giving us a few remains of history.
