This year, Bordeaux dons Latin America and Caribbean vibrant colors to celebrate a special edition of the "Latin America and Caribbean Weeks", coinciding with the 2024 Olympic year. Since yesterday (May 16, 2024) and until June 2, the city turns into a real cultural crossroads where sport, art and festivities intertwine to honor close ties and shared values between France and the Latin American continent.
A Festival of Encounters and Sharing
Under the sign of unity and solidarity, this event borders the city with a festive, open spirit. The planned activities celebrate cultural and sporting diversity, offering everyone, young and old, a multitude of events across all Bordeaux neighborhoods. From sports performances to art workshops, through academic conferences and gastronomic tastings, there's something for every taste. Every encounter, every activity is an invitation to explore and appreciate the richness of Latin American and Caribbean cultures.
Iridescence: A Luminous Exhibition
The highlight will surely be the "IRISATION" exhibition by Peruvian muralist Xomatok, opening June 1 at Galerie Magnetic (1 Pl. Paul et Jean Paul Avisseau, 33300 Bordeaux). Xomatok, real name Victor Hugo Zuniga, is famous for vibrant works captivating with bold color use and the ability to turn urban spaces into dynamic canvases. His murals, often inspired by light and pre-Columbian culture symbols, offer a modern take on ancient themes, making every work unique and deeply meaningful.
The opening, planned for Saturday June 1 from 6-9 pm, offers visitors an immersive experience where every color and shape tells a story, opening portals to unprecedented territories, sculpted by light and ancient myths. The sun's iridescence, soft and magical, wraps the world in its fantastic light, tinting the clouds pink and mauve dancing on Xomatok's canvases like a colored veil.
The 2024 Latin America and Caribbean Weeks in Bordeaux champions sport as a universal language, an unbreakable link uniting individuals beyond borders. In this Olympic year, the event reaffirms the importance of universal values of peace, tolerance and brotherhood, essential in a constantly evolving world.
