DISCOVERING AN AMAZING PLACE IN BORDEAUX

This huge bunker has become an unmissable exhibition and expression venue in Bordeaux. An out-of-the-ordinary cultural space that has blended the atypical underground feel of the place with a rich multidisciplinary cultural program.

Whether it's your first time or you're coming back, the submarine base always offers exclusive, unusual sensations. A unique atmosphere reigns there that you have to know.

Built between 1941 and 1943 by the Germans, it hosted Italian and German submarines. Bordeaux was then a strategic base for the occupier.

During the war, the base played a key role in France's defense and was used to house and maintain a fleet of submarines patrolling the Atlantic Ocean and protecting French interests. After the war, the base was still used by the navy until it was decommissioned in the 1960s.

AN EXTRAORDINARY CULTURAL SPACE IN BORDEAUX

Today the Bordeaux Submarine Base is open to the public as a museum and cultural center. Visitors can tour the historic installation and learn more about its role in the history of Bordeaux and France. The base also hosts a variety of cultural events, such as concerts, exhibitions and shows, throughout the year.

An amazing cultural space... Amazing because of the place, of course, but also because of the immersive events and exhibitions held there. I think, without being too wrong, it's without equivalent in Bordeaux. Of course you have other stunning venues and exhibition spaces, but... The soul of this place gives a unique dimension to the exhibition presented there.

Bordeaux Confidentiel's take
What immediately surprises is the giant scale of the place. Raw, worn, a captivating spot you walk through with a few shivers. This place seems frozen in time and the exhibitions held there benefit from this unusual atmosphere.

A piece of History delivered to you in its purest state.
