Bold architecture
This former institution for deaf-mute girls was built between 1862 and 1870 by architect Adolphe Thiac. The purpose of this school was to provide specialised teaching for young deaf and hard-of-hearing girls.
Beyond the impressive building, its façades bear 24 panels depicting the dactylological alphabet used by deaf-mute people.
Yet if you look closely, you will notice that the Z is missing… But why? Where has the Z gone?
History doesn't say… and Bordeaux Confidentiel doesn't know either. ?
