Since its creation in 1973, Bordeaux's CAPC (Centre d'Arts Plastiques Contemporains) has evolved into a major player on the contemporary art scene. Renamed Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux in 1984, it has been housed since 1990 in the rehabilitated spaces of Entrepôt Lainé, a former colonial goods warehouse redesigned by architects Denis Valode, Jean Pistre and Andrée Putman.
CAPC is dedicated to emerging art, with a mission to promote today's art and familiarize its audience with the changing forms of current art. Certified "Musée de France" since 2002, it has built over time a remarkable collection of over 1,600 works from about 200 artists.
A Rich, Diverse Collection
The CAPC collection impresses historically and patrimonially. Today, about a hundred works are shown in second-floor galleries. In 2021, CAPC was labeled Contemporary Art Center of National Interest, underlining its importance in France's art landscape.
Works cover a great variety of styles and media, reflecting the diversity and richness of contemporary art. Among artists: recognized names of the international scene and emerging talents, offering a complete panorama of 20th and 21st century art.
CAPC is much more than a museum, it's a place of life and encounters. Guided tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 3pm, helping visitors better understand and appreciate the works. These tours are a unique chance to exchange with cultural mediators and deepen contemporary art knowledge.
