Waroox is a multifaceted artist, born in Réunion, trained in Australia, having lived in Paris and Dubai, and recently settled in the Basque Country. He has been working with paint since his graffiti days, which he started in the streets of Réunion in the early 2000s, and today he applies his vocabulary across every format: canvases, murals, casts, workshops, live performances, charity auctions. In Bordeaux, we first spotted him during his gallery appearances, and we have not really managed to lose sight of him since.
His style?
Waroox builds his landscapes the way an architect assembles his plans. Telescoped fragments, drawn from a strong geographical imagination, share the same frame without asking permission. The vignettes break free from any reading logic, the composition invents its own freedom, the visual language flirts with fantasy. You look at a piece, you think you recognise a gable, a bay, a lighthouse, a stretch of dune, and the whole thing takes off toward something else.
The line is sharp, very black, inherited from graffiti and from his design and graphic studies in Australia, applied with the precision of an illustrator. Colour bathes in a solar, direct light, with no timid shading. The black outlines give the motifs an immediate presence, that readability that comes straight from wall culture.
His approach embraces the double origin: street and studio. Waroox is just as comfortable on a large-format mural as on a canvas, on a cast, in a public performance or a charity auction. Each medium becomes a new form of language, framed by the same graphic vocabulary.
What we love about him?
What strikes you first is the journey. Réunion, Australia, Paris, Dubai, residencies across Europe (Florence, Portugal, Cape Verde), and now the Basque Country: Waroox has been moving his studio and his influences for more than twenty years, and that movement reads directly in the compositions. These are never closed landscapes, they are assembled landscapes.
We also love his commitment. Charity battles, projects with la Fab (agnès b. foundation) or the Yann Arthus-Bertrand foundation: Waroox slips a social and environmental dimension into work that, on the surface, could easily settle for being decorative. The solar colour does not exempt him from substance.
Finally, there is that rare accessibility. Street art can quickly turn into an insider language. Waroox keeps the door open: a child stops in front of a piece, a connoisseur comes back to decode the details. Three possible readings on the same image, that is what makes an artist last over time.
Where to see him?
In Bordeaux, Waroox is currently on show at Galerie Magnetic, rue du Faubourg des Arts, with his solo exhibition Territoires Imaginés, from 10 September to 12 October 2026. Opening night on Thursday 10 September from 7pm to 10pm, free entry. This is the best moment to discover his work in real life, on the originals, after crossing paths with him on a wall.
