You have probably already seen, on your social media or directly in town, these colourful umbrellas hanging a few metres above the ground, forming an incredible artificial roof... But have you ever wondered how the idea was born?

The idea came from Portuguese artist Patricia Cunha, who developed in 2012 a concept using a multitude of colourful umbrellas to form a moving, poetic artificial sky.

The idea was such a success that photos were massively shared on social networks, creating a real BUZZ for the artist and more broadly for the place where the open-air exhibition was set up, revitalising city centres in the process.

Linking art to the local economy: that is the secret. By creating an accessible, impressive, colourful mini cultural event, cities boost local shops by drawing crowds and building strong city visibility, since Patricia Cunha's umbrella photos are passionately shared on social media.
