His Style
From Bordeaux, Borborygme is a trained roofer-zinc-worker who managed to metamorphose his craft into a singular urban art. In his workshop, he crafts zinc gargoyles, then installs them on facades, gutters or damaged pipes in Bordeaux streets. His gargoyles aren't simple ornaments: they bring "a little bit of poetry" to the city, in his own words.
What we love
What we love about Borborygme: first this simple and brilliant gesture, that of an artisan becoming artist without ever betraying his craft. He works zinc like others handle words: with patience, respect and a form of raw poetry. His gargoyles don't seek to impress, they discreetly invite themselves into the urban decor, between two bricks, on an old pipe, in a forgotten facade corner. Where the city tires, he adds a sign, a breath, a wink.
We love his way of inhabiting Bordeaux without jostling it: his creations don't impose themselves, they insinuate. Sometimes they repair more than they decorate, as if art could also serve to heal the city. And then this material - zinc - both modest and noble, ageing well, covering with a soft tint over time, matching Bordeaux's blonde stone. Each gargoyle lives with the facade, changes with light, blends without disappearing.
We also love his quiet poetry. No slogans, no cries, just a detail that makes you smile, a benevolent little monster watching over passers-by. His art isn't there to provoke but to soothe, to remind us a bit of beauty can arise where we don't expect it.
